Fossilized marble
In the south of Morocco, there are huge deposits of fossilized marble, beautiful and high resistant type stone which hosts large quantities of animal remains and vegetal fossils from Devonian upper age, between 340 and 480 million years old. The concentration and variety, in terms of sizes, of those fossils, is incredible. The elongated ones are the orthoceras (or “straight orn”), kind of prehistoric squid in which stands out the inner air chambers they were using for flotability. Spirals are goniatites, a snail ancestor. With magnifying glass, one can observe large quantities of microfossils, most of them trilobites and grey mullets. With this peculiar material, craftsmen make anything from worktops and sinks, to small utensils and decoration items.
